Prompts

15 prompts to copy

Each one names FreeTTS, so ChatGPT knows to make audio and not only text. Copy, paste, change the details.

For creators

Voiceovers, trailers and hooks without opening an editor.
The cat trailer

Write a 20 second movie trailer about my cat refusing to get off the keyboard. Then use FreeTTS to read it in a deep, dramatic voice and give me the MP3.

Text to speech
Three takes, one line

Use FreeTTS to read this hook in three different voices so I can pick one: "Nobody tells you this about your first 1,000 subscribers." Tell me which voice you would choose and why.

Voice suggestions + text to speech
Casting call

I am starting a true crime podcast. Ask FreeTTS for three narrator voices that fit, and let me hear the same opening line in each.

Voice suggestions

For learning

Hear it instead of reading it.
Three languages, side by side

Translate this sentence into Spanish, French and Japanese, then use FreeTTS to read each one aloud with a native voice so I can compare how they sound: "Where is the nearest train station?"

Text to speech
The walking summary

Summarise the article I paste next into 60 seconds of speech, written to be heard and not read. Then use FreeTTS to turn it into an MP3 for my walk.

Text to speech
Explain it to a ten year old

Explain how black holes work to a curious ten year old in about two minutes, then read it aloud with FreeTTS in a warm, friendly voice.

Text to speech

For work

Small jobs that used to need a microphone.
Interview rehearsal

I have a job interview for a product manager role tomorrow. Write five tough questions and use FreeTTS to read each one as a separate audio file, so I can practise answering out loud without reading.

Text to speech
The bakery voicemail

Write a 12 second voicemail greeting for my bakery, Flour and Salt. Friendly, British accent, mention we open at 7. Then record it with FreeTTS.

Text to speech
Listen to my own writing

Read my draft below aloud with FreeTTS at a calm pace. After I listen, tell me which sentences sounded clumsy.

Text to speech

Just for fun

Because you can.
Shopping list, live from the stadium

Rewrite my shopping list as a breathless football commentator, then read it aloud with FreeTTS: eggs, oat milk, two lemons, the good bread, washing-up liquid.

Text to speech
Bedtime story with their name in it

Write a three minute bedtime story about a small dragon called Mina who is afraid of the dark. Read it with FreeTTS in a soft, slow voice.

Text to speech
A formal apology from the dog

Write a formal public apology from my dog Biscuit for eating the sofa, in the style of an evening news bulletin. Then read it with FreeTTS in a solemn newsreader voice.

Text to speech

With PRO

Dialogue, exact timing and transcription.
Two hosts, one filePRO

Write a two minute podcast intro as a conversation between two hosts, Maya and Tom, about tiny habits. Then use FreeTTS to turn it into one audio file with a different voice for each host.

Dialogue to speech
The toast, with timingPRO

Here is my wedding toast. Use FreeTTS Script mode to record it with a two second pause after each joke and a ding before the last line, so I can rehearse with the real timing.

Voice memo to to-do listPRO

Here is a link to my voice memo. Use FreeTTS to write down what I said, then turn it into a tidy to-do list.

Fixes

If something does not work

The Connect page says FreeTTS did not accept the key

Copy the whole key, starting with ft_live_. A key is shown only once, when it is made, and a revoked key stops working at once. If in doubt, make a new one on this page and paste that.

ChatGPT answered in text and made no audio

Name the plugin in your message: "Use FreeTTS to read this aloud." ChatGPT decides when to call a plugin, and naming it removes the guesswork.

The audio link stopped working

On a free account a link lasts one hour, on PRO 30 days. Download the MP3 when it arrives, or ask ChatGPT to make it again.

It says I am out of characters

A free account reads 5,000 characters a day and 15,000 a month. The daily count starts again at midnight UTC. Ask "how many characters do I have left?" to see where you stand.

A request was refused as a PRO feature

HD and Signature voices, WAV files, dialogue with several voices, Script mode timing and transcription are part of PRO. Everything else works on a free account.

I want to disconnect

Delete the key in your FreeTTS dashboard under API keys. ChatGPT loses access the same moment. You can also remove the plugin inside ChatGPT.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Yes. A free FreeTTS account is enough: 318 standard voices in every language, 5,000 characters a day and 15,000 a month, as MP3. Free audio ends with a short spoken FreeTTS tag. PRO, at $19 a month, adds HD and Signature voices, removes the tag and raises the allowance to 1,000,000 characters a month.
Open the FreeTTS plugin in ChatGPT and connect it. A FreeTTS page opens and asks for an API key. Make the key on freetts.org/chatgpt with one press, paste it and press Connect. After that, ask ChatGPT to read something aloud.
OpenAI decides which ChatGPT plans can add plugins, and that can change. ChatGPT shows whether plugins are available to you. On the FreeTTS side, a free account is all you need.
FreeTTS has 2,253 voices in 149 languages. A free account uses the 318 standard voices, with at least one in every language. PRO adds the HD and Signature voices. Ask ChatGPT "which FreeTTS voices do you have for Arabic?" to see a list.
One request can be up to 5,000 characters on a free account, 10,000 on PRO and 25,000 on Creator. For a longer text, ask ChatGPT to split it into parts.
The free plan is for personal use. PRO and Creator include a commercial licence, so the audio can go into YouTube videos, podcasts, courses and client work.
Text that ChatGPT sends to FreeTTS is handled the same way as text typed on freetts.org, under the FreeTTS privacy policy. The plugin's server records the tool name, your plan, the number of characters and whether it worked. It does not record the text.
Yes. The plugin runs on the FreeTTS MCP server, and the same server works in Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Windsurf and Gemini CLI. The setup for each is on the MCP server page.
